The Career.
The Culinary Services Supervisor ( Dining Room Supervisor ) reports to the Executive Chef. The incumbent is responsible for implementing all aspects of culinary front of the house services to meet the nutritional needs of Community Members in a way which they will appreciate for its taste, delivery and variety. Also ensures the safe and efficient delivery of food within legislative and fiscal constraints, and maintains records as directed.
You will collaborate and work as a team player with emphasis on excellence in hospitality! When needed, you will be part of the first response team for all emergency fire calls, support all caterings both internally and externally by excelling in the V!VA culture. Ensure the appropriate methods of maintaining confidentiality and privacy of information are carried out in your day to day tasks and communication. Working closely with the Executive Chef to address, support and honour the needs of our current and prospective Community Members.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operations
- Is responsible for overseeing scheduling and execution of duties in order to exceed customer expectations in the dining room and for all catering events
- Assists with interviews and welcomes new Team Members to fill the scheduling needs of the department, ensuring all required mandatory training remains in compliance
- Provides performance feedback and recognition to Team Members as it relates to their performance, behaviour and service
- Ensures that Community Members receive the highest level of service during the meal period by overseeing the dining room operations and ensuring that Team Members have the tools and resources needed to perform their duties for that shift
- Participates fully in providing high quality, front of the house, food service.
- Informs the Executive Chef of issues that arise during shifts in their absence
- Fill in as a server, bus person or dishwasher as needed during the shift
- Communicates concerns and issues about food, food quality or food concerns to the Executive Chef or cooks
- Solves Community Member issues and concerns as they arise and ensures that all stakeholders are advised accordingly
- Ensures issue resolution relating to Culinary Services are followed through with in cooperation with Community Members, families, other V!VA Team Members.
- Establishes and maintains communications within the department and with other departments to ensure the needs are met.
- Oversees and participates in the presentation of daily meals
- Follows and ensures that all cleaning duties are performed to meet all hygiene and infection prevention and control standards
- Promotes and provides food service support and set up for special events and routine caterings as required
- Ensures that the Culture Service Standards are followed during meal service
- Conducts monthly, quarterly and annual audits and provides detailed action plans as required
- Responds to any emergency calls by or on the behalf of Community Members. Make calls to the Emergency Medical System and/or the Community Member’s emergency contact, as required.
- Ensure the delivery of services required by Community Members. This includes referring Community Members and families to the Executive Chef should they require additional services or information.
- Report any undesired behaviours, signs or symptoms that may attribute to the decline of general wellness of the Community Members to the Wellness team
- Follows and ensures that effective Infection Control protocols are in place at all times and heightened measures are clearly communicated when needed i.e. outbreak
- Implementation and documentation of the monitoring for well-being protocol
- Other projects and responsibilities as assigned
Business Planning & Monitoring:
- Attends and contributes to all Culinary department meetings and applicable Community meetings i.e. town hall
- Actively participates in Making Today Great! Meetings
- Assists the Executive Chef with developing departmental goals by providing input regarding the Culinary department, operations, talent and training plan and Health & Safety/Risk plan
- Implements, monitors, and achieves all approved departmental goals as set out
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Experience in a dining room setting, serving food taking orders and preferably in a fine dining restaurant
- Ability to communicate clearly with peers and subordinates
- Ability to manage their time effectively with little supervision
- Ability to display leadership skills to support team growth and improvement
- Up to date and clean police check-vulnerable sector
- Smart Serve Certificate required
- Food Handler’s Certificate required
- Ability to work as a Team Member, understanding the priorities of others
- Able to bend, stretch, sit and stand for long periods. Able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs
- Ability to work flexible hours and weekends
- Available for call-ins
- Able to work in a fast paced environment and multi-task
- WHMIS certification an asset but not required
- Able to understand, articulate and live the V!VA Orange Dot Values
- Able to effectively communicate in verbal and written English.
